Narrow alleys carved between stucco-fronted houses and a deluge of steps, guide you to the Hotel Caruso, which is located in the medieval town of Ravello. It is set atop a hill commanding breathtaking views of the enchanting Amalfi Coast. In 1893 that Pantaleone Caruso rented five rooms in one of the wings of the Marquis D’Afflitto’s eleventh century palace. Soon after, the ‘‘Pensione Belvedere’’ opened its doors to visitors. And in 1903, a long article in the New York Times made the Hotel Caruso suddenly very famous across the Atlantic. When its five rooms became twenty-four, the tiny Caruso was transformed into a proper hotel occupying the entire palazzo. It was at this time that the owner’s name was added to the original ‘‘Belvedere’’. Most rooms feature either a private terrace or balcony, some even a private garden. Swimming in the spectacular heated infinity pool is like being suspended between sea and sky. -Hotel Caruso Belvedere

Originally built in 1893 and frequented over the years by writers Virginia Woolf and Graham Greene, the...” MORE>>
